This is a portrait of Yosef Saleh, the silversmith, of Yemen. He was born in 1888 and lived to be 105 years of age. He and his family eventually emigrated to Israel, where they live today.
I am grateful that the family has allowed me the use of this image. Many more beautiful images of Yemenite Jewry in the early 1900's attest to a rich and vibrant era of Jewish history that I didn't know enough about.
I plan on learning more, and perhaps creating a series of paintings based on Jewish history.

Maybe in his 70s in this portrait. White beard and white shirt and white talis katan.
